(Luana:) In Ghana, if you live along a main thoroughfare and have no money for paint, and you want to spruce up your house or your shed or even your storage locker, you can swear allegiance to a cell phone carrier and -- voila! -- you're covered. The company paints your building in exchange for the right to slap multiple logos across your walls.
The Ghana countryside between Accra and Kumasi is an endless procession of red buildings with Vodaphone logos, canary yellow buildings with MTN logos, aqua and purple buildings with Zain logos…you get the idea. Sort of like a Crips vs. Bloods gang rivalry, with paint as the weapon.
The paint company evidently gets the idea too: there were many buildings painted with the Spar Paint logo.
